I’m Sam - a Wanaka-based photographer with over a decade of experience in photographing residential, commercial and retail projects.
I provide architectural and interior photography of residential, commercial and civic spaces to a diverse client base, including architects, interior designers and suppliers to document projects nationwide.
Whether you need full coverage of a newly completed project or just a handful of key images, I’ll help you create a considered, cohesive visual library.

FAQs
-
I like to work with predominantly natural light and observe how a space evolves over the course of a day. When possible, I prefer to utilise a full day of shooting to be fully immersed in the space. Beyond the go-to list of shots of a project I’m constantly analysing for creative angles and vignettes that I can create to capture the atmosphere of the project at a unique moment in time.
-
Generally my photoshoots are either a half day or a full day, with some flexibility for shoots of smaller individual spaces. Shooting time also varies depending on whether I’m creating both stills and a video or focussing on one of the two. I work with my clients to plan the most suitable scope for each individual shoot.
-
Where possible, I prefer to shoot in favourable weather - clear skies and soft light often help bring out the best in a space. That said, I’m just as happy embracing the moody tones of an overcast day or the soft diffusion of a winter inversion. A well-designed project should photograph beautifully in any conditions, and I tailor my approach to suit the light on the day.
-
It really depends on how the project is situated and the atmosphere that the images should convey. Do you want to illustrate how the sun lights the bedrooms in the morning, or capture the evening glow of the exterior and landscaping? I’ll work with you to plan the ideal time of day for documenting your project.
-
Absolutely. I’m based in Wanaka and regularly operate in Queenstown, Cromwell, throughout Central Otago and beyond. For shoots more than 30km from Wanaka a travel fee may apply, which I’ll discuss with you during the booking process.
-
Yes - all shoots include licensing for use across your website, social media, and award submissions without time limits. If any third parties (like suppliers or collaborators) would like to use the images too, they’ll need to arrange separate licensing. I offer a cost-sharing option to help make this more accessible across project teams.
-
Cost-sharing is a simple way to split the cost of a shoot between multiple parties involved in a project - for example, the architect, builder, interior designer, or suppliers. Each party receives licensed access to the final images for their own use, with shared costs making it more affordable for everyone. Just let me know who else might be interested in using the imagery, and I can provide a tailored quote.

“We worked with Sam on a recent new housing development project in Queenstown and couldn’t be happier with the results. From the outset, he demonstrated a clear understanding of our needs and vision, translating it all into a final video that exceeded expectations. Communication was smooth, collaboration was effortless, and the attention to detail was spot-on. A genuinely great person to work with—highly recommend for anyone looking for a skilled, intuitive videographer and photographer.”
