From the Lakes District Museum Collection in Arrowtown, this photograph of Eichardt’s Hotel in Queenstown dates from the early 20th century, likely between 1910 and 1930. A large group is gathered outside the iconic hotel, with two motorcars proudly parked at the entrance.

About Eichardt’s Hotel

Established during the gold rush of the 1860s, Eichardt’s Hotel has long stood as a cornerstone of Queenstown’s waterfront. Originally a modest lodging house, it grew to accommodate miners, travellers, and later tourists drawn to the region’s alpine scenery. Today, Eichardt’s remains one of New Zealand’s most celebrated historic hotels, continuing a legacy of hospitality that spans more than 160 years
