Bringing Kiwi Flair to YouTube – The Automation Geeks
Josh and Grace of The Automation Geeks came to me with a fun and unique brief: create a YouTube channel intro video that blended their tech-forward brand with a classic Kiwiana vibe. The goal was to capture their personality and professionalism while weaving in unmistakably New Zealand flavour.
We spent a full day shooting across some of Auckland’s most recognisable spots, building a visual journey that balanced brand storytelling with a playful twist. Highlights included filming amongst a curious flock of sheep in Cornwall Park, and wading knee-deep into the waters at Cheltenham Beach while dressed in a full suit, tie, and togs. Those moments not only brought a sense of humour to the shoot, but also helped make the final cut genuinely memorable.
Each location was chosen to add layers of meaning: iconic backdrops to ground the video in place, subtle brand cues to reinforce The Automation Geeks’ identity, and small visual “easter eggs” for sharp-eyed viewers to discover.
The end result was a high-energy intro video that sets the tone for their channel - lively, approachable, and rooted in Kiwi culture. More than just a branding piece, it’s a launchpad for their wider YouTube and social media strategy.
This project was a great reminder of how short-form brand content can pack in personality, setting a business apart right from the first click.
