Ruarangi Bathroom

Ruarangi Bathroom is one of several projects I’ve photographed for Lucy Design – an interior designer who specialises in bathrooms and always brings a refined, minimal touch to her work. Lucy and I have worked together on a number of shoots over the years, and her aesthetic is a perfect fit for mine – minimal, quiet, and considered.

This was a relaxed half-day shoot, capturing stills of a recently completed bathroom renovation. The brief was simple: highlight the material palette and layout, and create a library of crisp, elevated images for use in Lucy’s portfolio and online presence.

The space is restrained and beautifully resolved – clean lines, layered stone textures, and matte black fixtures give the room a timeless feel. The styling was kept minimal and purposeful, with thoughtful details like dried botanicals, curated soaps, and soft towels adding warmth without clutter.

As always with Lucy’s work, the design is functional without feeling clinical – it feels like a space you’d actually want to spend time in. From wide context shots to tight, atmospheric details, the images were all about capturing that balance of form and feeling.

Shooting bathrooms can be deceptively tricky, but when the design is this strong and the light plays ball, it’s a pleasure to photograph.
